Con

We put the con into consumer,
fed lies by companies
to conceal the truth.

Controversy sells
contemporary commodities,
a contest of consumption
where the biggest con
rests in our own conscience.

We condemn conflict
yet fight to control
a market guided
by oil and coal

The very conspiracy
we continue to debate
is what connects us all
and contains all our hate

We are conned into congratulation,
praising unconsciously: without hesitation.
We are led to believe nothing more than a rumour,
if the internet says it, so does the consumer.

~ Andrew
The fact that the prefix ‘con’ literally means to fool or lie to someone is what created this poem. I hope you enjoyed it.
